Frequently Asked Questions
1. The Basics
What is Got Lucky Labs?
Got Lucky Labs is your at-home STI testing sidekick, equal parts convenience, privacy, and peace of mind. We built this so you can skip the awkward clinic visit, the waiting-room small talk, and the “so what brings you in today?” moment. You order a kit online, collect your sample from the comfort of home, mail it back in a prepaid envelope, and get your results securely online in just a few days. We make testing feel as normal as brushing your teeth (but slightly more heroic).
What’s included in the kit?
Every kit comes with everything you need to collect your sample properly, sterile collection tools, easy step-by-step instructions, and a prepaid, discreet return envelope. You’ll also find a QR code that connects you directly to your secure testing portal where you can track your sample, view your results, and chat with a clinician if needed. We’ve stripped away all the confusing lab jargon and replaced it with plain English and a dash of charm.
How does it work?
The process is designed to be dead simple. You pick your test online, we ship it discreetly to your door, you collect your sample using the included tools, and send it back to our CLIA-certified lab using the prepaid mailer. Once your sample arrives, our lab gets to work analyzing it, and within a few days, you’ll get a secure email letting you know your results are ready to view. It’s the same science used in clinics and hospitals, just minus the cold metal exam table and awkward paper gown.
2. Privacy & Discretion
Will my results or purchase be shared with anyone?
Absolutely not. Your information is private, encrypted, and only accessible to you and our licensed medical team. We operate under strict HIPAA compliance, which means your health data is protected by the same standards as any hospital or doctor’s office. We don’t sell your data, we don’t share it with advertisers, and we definitely don’t believe your personal health choices are anyone’s business but yours.
What does the packaging look like?
We designed our packaging to blend in, not stand out. Your kit arrives in a plain, unmarked poly mailer bag, no logos, no bright colors, no “YOU’RE GETTING TESTED!” anywhere. Even your nosy neighbor or mail carrier won’t know what’s inside. The inside, however, is a different story, clean, well-organized, and made to feel like you’re unboxing something from your favorite lifestyle brand, not a medical supply company.
How are my results stored?
Your results live in a secure, encrypted portal that only you can access. We store all health data in HIPAA-compliant systems and never associate identifiable information with your results outside of your account. You can log in anytime to view your testing history, download reports, or connect with a provider. Think of it as your personal sexual health vault, private, safe, and judgment-free.
3. Testing & Accuracy
How accurate are the tests?
Extremely. We partner only with CLIA-certified and CAP-accredited labs, the same kind that process tests for hospitals and major health systems. Our tests are validated for clinical accuracy, meaning they meet the highest federal standards for sensitivity and specificity (a fancy way of saying they’re reliable and precise). In other words, you’re getting the same scientific accuracy as a clinic, just with less fluorescent lighting.
What STIs do you test for?
Depending on which kit you order, we can test for a range of infections including Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Trichomoniasis, Syphilis, HIV, Herpes, and Hepatitis C. Some kits focus on specific risks, while others provide a full sexual health panel. We designed our options so you can test for what’s relevant to your life, no judgment, just information that empowers you to take control of your health.
How soon after exposure should I test?
Great question, and an important one. Each STI has what’s called a “window period,” which is the time between potential exposure and when it can reliably be detected in your system. Testing too soon may lead to inaccurate results. We include guidance for each infection in your kit and in your online account, but as a rule of thumb, many common STIs are detectable within 1–3 weeks after exposure. If you’re ever unsure, our clinicians can advise you on when to test and if a follow-up test is recommended.
4. Results & Treatment
How long until I get my results?
Once your sample arrives at the lab, you’ll usually receive your results within 48 hours. Depending on shipping it can take unto 2-5 business days. We’ll notify you by email as soon as they’re ready. You’ll then log into your secure portal to view your results privately. We don’t mail paper results, and we definitely don’t call your house, because your business is yours alone.
What happens if I test positive?
First, take a deep breath. Testing positive for an STI isn’t the end of the world, it’s actually the first step toward taking care of your health and protecting your partners. If your test comes back positive, you’ll be able to schedule a telehealth consult directly through Got Lucky Labs. A licensed physician will review your results, answer questions, and guide you through treatment options. Many common infections are easily treatable with medication, and we’re here to help you handle it quickly and discreetly.
Can I get treatment through Got Lucky Labs?
Not yet, but we make getting treatment simple. If your results show something that needs follow-up, our medical team will guide you on what to do next and help you connect with your primary care provider or a local clinic for treatment. We provide everything you need to share with your doctor so you can get care quickly and easily. No awkward explanations, no extra steps, just a smooth handoff to the care you already trust.
5. Orders, Shipping & Returns
How long does shipping take?
Orders typically ship out within one business day and arrive within 2–5 business days depending on your location. You’ll receive tracking information via email once your order ships. All kits ship in plain packaging, so they blend right in with your everyday deliveries.
Can I cancel or return my kit?
For health and safety reasons, we can’t physically accept returns once a kit has been shipped, but we will refund your purchase if you choose not to use it. Once your refund is processed, that specific kit will be deactivated in our system and can’t be registered or used for testing. If your order hasn’t shipped yet, reach out to us right away and we’ll cancel it before it leaves the warehouse. Our support team moves fast, so the sooner you contact us, the smoother the process.
What if my kit arrived damaged or missing something?
That’s rare, but if it happens, we’ll make it right. Just contact our support team with a photo or quick note about what’s missing or damaged, and we’ll send a replacement kit free of charge. We take quality seriously, because the last thing anyone wants when testing for an STI is a missing label.
Payment & Insurance
Can I use HSA or FSA funds?
HSA and FSA payments are coming soon! We’re working on enabling them at checkout, but they’re not available just yet. For now, all major debit and credit cards are accepted. Once HSA/FSA is live, we’ll notify customers so you can use pre-tax dollars for your tests—because staying on top of your sexual health should be as easy on your wallet as it is on your conscience.
Does insurance cover this?
Not yet, but we’re working on it. Our goal is to make testing as accessible as possible, which includes supporting insurance billing in the near future. In the meantime, many customers find that our pricing is comparable to or even cheaper than copays or urgent care visits (without the awkward wait). We’ll notify all customers as soon as insurance coverage becomes available.
7. The Fun (and Important) Stuff
Do I need to test even if I have no symptoms?
Yes, 100%. Most STIs don’t show symptoms at all, especially in the early stages. That means you can feel totally fine but still have something that needs attention. Routine testing is how responsible adults take care of themselves and their partners. Think of it as maintenance, like an oil change, but for your sex life.
How often should I get tested?
The CDC recommends testing every 3–6 months if you’re sexually active with new or multiple partners. But frequency can vary based on your lifestyle and risk factors. If you’re not sure what’s right for you, our medical team can help you figure out a personalized testing plan. Regular testing isn’t just about catching something early, it’s about knowing your status and feeling confident in your sexual health.
Why “Got Lucky Labs”?
Because we believe sexual health shouldn’t be wrapped in shame. We built this brand to make testing feel normal, approachable, and, dare we say it, cool. The name is a wink to everyone who’s ever had a fun night out and knows that “getting lucky” should come with being smart. Testing is sexy. Confidence is sexier. And that’s what we’re all about.
